Missouri voters reject new Congressional maps
JEFFERSON CITY (First Alert 4) - Missouri voters have rejected proposed Congressional maps the legislature passed in 2025.
Voters voted down Proposition A on Tuesday. The measure would have into place Congressional maps passed by the state lawmakers in 2025. The new maps would have somewhat altered the borders of Congressional districts in the St. Louis area, but would have chopped up the 5th District, which covers Kansas City. Republicans were hoping that would net them an additional seat.
Late in 2025, residents started an initiative petition to put the proposed Congressional map up for a statewide vote. Missouri Secretary of State Dennis Hoskins said the measure could not go on the ballot, saying Congressional maps are not subject to the initiative petition process. However, the Missouri Supreme Court ruled the new map must go up for a vote. The US Supreme Court let that decision stand.
