Voters reelect Rep. Josh Gottheimer for sixth term

Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D) will easily win reelection over Republican challenger Sean Kirrane, the Associated Press projected Tuesday.

Gottheimer, who will start his sixth term in January, was the first in a new class of Democratic representatives that significantly cut Republicans’ presence in the state’s House delegation. 

He ousted Republican Scott Garrett in 2016, two years before Democrats would claim GOP-held seats in the state’s 2nd, 3rd, 7th, and 11th Congressional Districts.

Gottheimer is among Congress’s most prolific fundraisers and reported having more than $13.5 million banked as of mid-October.
