Rep. Analilia Mejia (D) will defeat Randolph Councilman Joe Hathaway (R) to win her first full term in Congress, the Associated Press projected.

The victory is Mejia’s second over Hathaway in the 11th Congressional District, which before Mejia was represented by now-Gov. Mikie Sherrill. Mejia defeated Hathaway in a special April election called to find someone to fill the vacancy left when Sherrill resigned from Congress to become governor.

Mejia, a progressive community organizer, will begin her first full term in Congress in January.
