Rep. Rob Menendez (D) cruised to reelection over a trio of third-party challengers to win a third term in Congress, the Associated Press projected Tuesday.
Menendez was always heavily favored to win the Hudson County-based 8th Congressional District. The area is overwhelmingly Democratic, and Democrats there boast one of the state’s most robust get-out-the-vote machines. Republicans have won the district only once in the last half century.
Menendez, the son of former U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez, faced three minor party challengers: independent Aristotle Eliopoulous, Craig Honts of the Socialist Workers Party, and Da’Shone Hughey of the We the People Party. None was considered a serious electoral threat.
