Democratic Secretary of State Gregg Amore secured a second four-year term Tuesday. He ran unopposed in Rhode Island’s general election.

Amore, 60, received nearly 117,000 votes while another 5,700 votes went to write-in candidates, according to preliminary, unofficial results from the Rhode Island Board of Elections. The results reflect all 39 of the states municipalities reporting as of 8:29 p.m.

The former state representative and high school history teacher was first elected secretary of state in 2022 after serving a decade in the General Assembly representing a portion of East Providence.

During his first term, Amore advocated for election accessibility, government transparency and a new state history center to showcase Rhode Island’s most treasured documents.

Amore also spent much of the last two years pushing back against the Trump administration’s efforts to obtain Rhode Island voters’ confidential registration data. He refused to turn over an unredacted voter file to the U.S. Department of Justice in 2025, prompting a federal lawsuit that a judge dismissed in April.

The administration appealed that decision, which is scheduled for oral arguments in Boston on Dec. 10.
