Missouri voters make it harder to overturn voter-passed measures
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Missouri voters have given their approval to a plan that makes it harder for state lawmakers to repeal or alter laws passed by voters through the initiative petition process.
Voters gave the thumbs up to Amendment 6 on Tuesday. It changes the threshold to be met to alter or change laws brought about by the initiative petition process.
In order for lawmakers to alter to repeal a law the voters approved through a petition, 80 percent of both the Missouri House and Senate would need to vote to put the measure on the ballot; voters must then approve the proposal.
Amendment 6 does not apply to state constitutional amendments as any changes to the constitution already require voter approval.
