Incumbents hold strong in 3 CCSD School Board races

Longtime Clark County School Board Trustee Linda Cavazos was leading in the District G race against challenger Paul Casey in Tuesday’s general election.

Preliminary results early Wednesday showed Cavazos had received 61.4 percent of the vote, while Casey, an attorney and educator, had received 38.6 percent of the votes cast.

A victory for Cavazos would grant her a third and final term as a trustee. Cavazos was appointed to the board in 2017 and elected to her first term in 2018. She is the board’s longest-serving member.

School board trustees serve four-year terms and are one of seven people with voting power on policy and budget decisions in the school district.

Here’s where other School Board races stand as of 12:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

District F

School Board Vice President Irene Bustamante Adams was ahead of district veteran Rob Hutchinson in her effort to retain her seat in District F.

Bustamante Adams had earned 61.3 percent of votes cast, while Hutchinson had received 38.7 percent of the vote, preliminary results showed.

Bustamante Adams was elected to the school board in 2022. Hutchinson is the school district’s facility management director.

Bustamante Adams received an endorsement from the Clark County Education Association. Hutchinson is backed by the Nevada State Education Association and Education Support Employees Association.

District F primarily contains the southwest Las Vegas Valley.

District D

Trustee Brenda Zamora was leading challenger David Gomez in the District D race.

Zamora had received 66 percent of the vote, while Gomez had earned 34 percent of votes cast, according to preliminary results.

Zamora was elected to the school board in 2022. Gomez is an education advocate of often attends school board meetings and offers public comment.

District D contains parts of the east and northeast Las Vegas Valley.
