North Las Vegas voters to choose new mayor, council member
Nevada Democratic Party Chairwoman Daniele Monroe-Moreno was leading Scott Black in Tuesday’s election for North Las Vegas mayor, according to unofficial results released by elections officials early Wednesday.
Monroe-Moreno led Black 57.9 percent to 42.1 percent, according to results posted shortly after 12:30 a.m. The race will determine who succeeds Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown.
Black, North Las Vegas’ mayor pro tem, has represented Ward 3 on the City Council since 2017 and campaigned to continue the city’s growth and public safety efforts.
Monroe-Moreno is a state assemblymember, state party chair and former correctional officer whose campaign focused on neighborhood investment and economic opportunity.
In City Council Ward 1, Esmerelda Villeda was leading Sherry Strothers 62.2 percent to 37.9 percent in preliminary results. Villeda and Strothers are competing to replace departing Councilman Isaac Barron.
Ida Zeiler secured the Ward 3 council seat in the primary, winning more than 50 percent of the vote.
