McCarthy, Nordstrom in close race for Las Vegas City Council Ward 2
Firefighter Luke McCarthy narrowly led Las Vegas Municipal Court Judge Shannon Nordstrom in the race for the Las Vegas City Council’s Ward 2 seat Tuesday, according to unofficial results released by election officials early Wednesday.
McCarthy was leading Nordstrom by 0.01 percentage points, 50.05 percent to 49.95 percent as of 1 a.m.
More than 116,000 Las Vegas residents call Ward 2 home. It encompasses parts of the west valley, including Summerlin.
The winner will replace Councilwoman Kara Kelley, who agreed not to seek a full term when she was appointed to the seat.
Two other council contests were settled before November. Ward 4 Councilwoman Francis Allen-Palenske was declared elected as the sole candidate, while Ward 6 Councilwoman Nancy Brune won in the primary.
