City Council approves extending ban on new self-storage facilities into spring 2027
As of Monday, the City of Atlanta will ban proposals for new self-storage facilities for an additional 60 days.
Toward the end of October, Channel 2 Action News reported that members of the city council were proposing an extension of the storage facility moratorium.
The original moratorium came with support from the council and Mayor Andre Dickens in June, when the mayor issued an executive order putting a temporary ban in place for new facilities.

At the Oct. 26 Zoning Committee meeting, councilmembers Dustin Hills and Andrea L. Boone introduced the legislation to extend the moratorium.
The proposal, now passed, extends a moratorium on storage facilities passed in July.
The ban was already set to expire on Jan. 11, 2027.
With the extra time for the moratorium now in effect, potential businesses or companies that want to build new self-storage facilities in Atlanta will have to wait until March to begin submitting applications.
