NMDOJ paralegal arrested in fentanyl bust touted as largest in New Mexico in DEA history
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A paralegal with the New Mexico Department of Justice is in jail, facing charges for a record seizure of powdered fentanyl, court records show.
Federal agents searched the northwest Albuquerque home of 45-year-old Angel Ramirez last week. They say they seized more than almost 95 pounds of fentanyl powder, pills and heroin.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration described it as “the largest seizure in New Mexico in the DEA history.” The DEA was established in 1973.
Investigators believe Ramirez used her position at the NMDOJ to turn her home into a drug operation. If convicted, she could face life in prison.
This arrest comes after a DEA whistleblower claimed the feds allowed fentanyl into Albuquerque as part of their operations. KOB reached out to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for New Mexico for more information on this recent bust. No word yet.
