Democrats secured several major victories in Texas in the 2026 midterm elections, including wins in some of the state’s highest-profile races.
NBC News projects Democrat Gina Hinojosa has defeated incumbent Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, while Democrat James Talarico has won the race for U.S. Senate against Republican Ken Paxton.
Democrats are also projected to win two other statewide races, with Vikki Goodwin defeating incumbent Republican Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and Nathan Johnson winning the race for Texas attorney general.
The projected Democratic victories extend beyond Texas, with the party expected to gain control of both the U.S. House and Senate. Those results would create a divided federal government for the remainder of President Donald Trump’s second term.
