Fronts move through bringing back the sun, then cooler, drier air settles in for the weekend
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The cold front has moved through, and that locks in an improving afternoon across southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi. The line of showers that came with it was thin and fell apart as it moved east, so most of us stayed dry. Northwest winds are now pushing drier air in and clearing out the low clouds and the dense fog that settled over the Northshore and Mississippi Gulf Coast earlier. If you hit the road this morning, you know visibility was the real issue. Conditions get better as the day goes on.
That drier air is on the way to making Wednesday night a good one. Skies clear and winds go light. That sets up efficient cooling, with lows in the low to mid 50s north of Lake Pontchartrain and upper 50s to low 60s closer to the coast. Thursday is rather pleasant, with plenty of sunshine and highs in the upper 70s and low 80s. A weak front arrives Thursday night into Friday. The better moisture stays along and south of I-10, so isolated to scattered showers are possible there while most northern areas stay dry. Highs reach around 80 to the low 80s across the north and the upper 70s near the coast.
A reinforcing front moves through Friday night, and that is when it starts to feel like fall. Saturday highs hold in the low to mid 70s with mostly dry skies. Lows Saturday night fall into the low to mid 40s across the northern half of the area and stay in the 50s closer to the coast. Sunday is the one to watch. Computer models disagree on whether a trough moves across our area or stays cut off to the west, so rain chances are low confidence and may stay near the coast. Behind it, expect mostly dry weather early next week and temperatures in the upper 60s for highs. Keep that in mind for weekend plans, and keep the Fox 8 weather app handy for updates.
