Weak cold front could dust northern New Mexico with snow
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A weak cold front will bring breezy winds, cooler air and light snow chances to far northern New Mexico, including possible slick spots near Raton.
A weather system over the Colorado Rockies will move across northeast New Mexico by the evening. Most of New Mexico will stay dry as the system moves through.
Far northern New Mexico mountains and mountains in southern Colorado could see light snow, with a dusting expected in New Mexico and up to a few inches on the highest peaks in Colorado.
Small rain chances will develop in far northeastern New Mexico, mainly in the far northern parts of Colfax and Union counties. As the system moves into the Texas Panhandle overnight, colder air will change rain to snow and could affect areas near Raton Pass.
Snow totals near Raton Pass will likely stay light, with forecast guidance showing 1 to 2 inches. Forecasters expect the system to clear the area by early Thursday morning.
Most of the rest of the state will only see breezy winds and cooler temperatures Thursday. Wind gusts could reach up to 35 mph, while afternoon highs should range from the 60s to 70s in lower elevations, though some places may stay in the 50s.
The forecast for late week into the weekend remains uncertain because weather models do not agree on the track of another upper-level disturbance.
