Cumbres and Toltec Railroad affected by flooding in Chama
CHAMA, N.M. – The Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad said flooding reached its Chama Depot and rail yard, but the 2026 train season had already ended.
The railroad said the depot and rail yard sit outside the current mandatory evacuation zones in Chama. The railyard saw some flooding after heavy rainfall in the area.
The railroad also said it knows about flood damage near the approach to the Chama River Bridge. Pictures circulating online show the ground beneath the tracks completely washed away.
The railroad said its team will assess railroad facilities and infrastructure to determine the extent of any damage once the waters recede and conditions are safe.
The railroad said there are no immediate impacts to scheduled train excursions because its 2026 regular operating season has concluded.
It encouraged people who want to help to support relief efforts through the American Red Cross.
