Recount announced in Florida's District 27 race, Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections says
What to Know
- The predicted blue wave materialized in midterm elections from coast to coast Tuesday, with Democrats winning control of Congress in a widespread repudiation of President Donald Trump and the Republican Party.
- Democrats flipped at least seven Senate seats in ruby-red states and battlegrounds alike: Kansas, which hasn’t elected a Democratic senator in nearly a century, Iowa, Texas, Ohio, Maine, North Carolina and South Carolina. They held on to battleground seats in Georgia and Michigan.
- In the the House, Democrats will start the year with what would be its largest majority in nearly two decades, NBC News projects. Democrats flipped more than two dozen districts, some that voted for Trump by double digits in 2024.
- In the gubernatorial races, Democrats also flipped GOP-held offices: Keisha Lance Bottoms in Georgia, Amy Acton in Ohio, Rob Sand in Iowa, Gina Hinojosa in Texas and Aaron Ford in Nevada.
- There are several races still left to call. In the Senate, Alaska and Mississippi remain too close to call and there are still 47 House races to be decided.
- Trump, who spent weeks telling voters to pretend he’s on the ballot, said the losses were not a referendum on him. In an interview with Fox News late Tuesday, the president blamed the candidates themselves, not his policies that voters have looked on unfavorably.
