Mom, daughter killed in suspected grizzly bear attack after vanishing on walk, officials say

(Gray News) - A mother and her 20-year-old daughter were killed in a suspected grizzly bear attack on a popular trail in Canada, officials said.

On Sunday, the family reported them missing.

Officials discovered the bodies on the Snooka West Trail near Bella Coola, British Columbia, following a multi-day search, according to the BC Conservation Officer Service.

The victims were identified as Jennifer Balcarras, 48, and her daughter, Selah Reed, 20, the CBC reported.

Josh Balcarras, Jennifer’s brother, told the CBC his sister and niece were familiar with the path, describing it as a “casual walk.”

The BC Conservation Officer Service has urged the public to avoid the Snooka West Trail. Officers are investigating and working to track and capture any bears involved in the attack.
