Man charged after attempting to lure girls to his car

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A man is behind bars after police said that he tried to lure young girls into his vehicle outside a school.

Markel Britt, 32, has been charged with solicitation of a minor and attempted kidnapping.

On October 27, records state that Memphis Police responded to a call from a school officer at Northeast Prep Academy after he reported a man inside a black Nissan Maxima in front of the school trying to lure young girls into his car.

The school officer approached the vehicle, and it fled the scene.

The next day, several students approached the officer and told him, as well as the school, what had happened.

Investigators noted the same black Nissan Maxima trying to approach girls near Macon Road and Wells Station Avenue around 2:40 p.m.

Police records state that investigators determined that Britt was the driver of the vehicle. Police ran the vehicle tags and found that it was registered to a woman.

A victim identified Britt as the one who tried to get her into his vehicle by reaching out of the window with his phone, trying to lure her into the car.

Britt is being held on a $150,000 bond, and his next court appearance is scheduled for November 5.
