Registered sex offender arrested for recording children, ‘concerning’ images found, police say
MERIDIANVILLE, Ala. (WAFF/Gray News) - A registered sex offender is facing 10 counts of first-degree voyeurism after a Huntsville police investigation.
Daren William Mount, 59, was arrested on Monday.
According to the Huntsville Police Department, Mount was on its radar after an employee at a local business reported seeing “concerning” images while helping him transfer digital files.
HPD’s Special Task Force Rescuing and Investigating Kid Exploitation (STRIKE) team began investigating.
During the investigation, the team said it found pictures and videos of children, including some that were taken at angles showing intimate areas of children’s bodies.
Investigators said some of the images were manipulated. They also said some of the recordings found appeared to be taken in public places.
Mount is a registered sex offender, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Sex Offender Registry.
Federal court records show Mount pleaded guilty to receipt of child pornography in 2013. He was sentenced to 84 months in prison and 240 months of supervised release.
Mount has returned to prison twice since his 2019 release for violating the terms of his release, according to federal court records.
A federal judge decided he should be under supervised release for life after one of those violations.
The 2011 indictment said his crime spanned from 2003 to 2010, when he was viewing child sexual abuse material on a laptop.
HPD seized electronic devices during Mount’s arrest Monday and has forensic specialists examining those devices.
Police said Mount could be facing additional charges.
