Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez points to legislation and subpoena power with Democratic majority in congress

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — U.S. Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez pointed to both subpoena power and legislation as tools Democrats will use after gaining control of congress.

On Tuesday night, KOB 4 asked Leger Fernandez how she views the next couple of years looking like in congress with Democratic control.

“We’re going to have two powerful, tools at our disposal, we’re going to have the power of the gavel, so we’ll decide who gets subpoenas, we’ll decide who comes before our committees, we’ll also decide what legislation gets heard on the floor of the house,” said Leger Fernandez. “And we will lead the decisions about the budget. So, you’re going to see Democrats using every piece of power that we have, every tool we have, now we won’t be able to have the president sign our bills, but we’re going to push him and we’re going to hold him accountable, using the power of the purse, the power of the gavel and the house floor.”
