UNM Looking to Continue Winning Streak as They Prepare For Road Test Against Nevada

UNM vs Nevada FB Preview

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — After winning for the first time in San Jose for the first time since 1969, the UNM Lobos are now 7-1 on the year and 4-0 in Mountain West play and this week, they gear up for another tough road test.

The Lobos are set to travel to Reno for a matchup with the Nevada Wolfpack this Friday at 7 p.m. with the game streaming on the CBS Sports Network.

UNM defeated Nevada last year on homecoming 24-22. Now, Nevada is currently 3-5 on the year, but Head Coach Jason Eck believes his guys need to stay ready to face a tough team in a tough environment.

“Two days and looking at it, I mean, I think they look, pretty good now that they were pretty good when they play out. And or maybe their record didn’t turn out, the way they wanted to, but that was, you know, those are seventh game last year, because that was the start of our winning streak with, they’re a good team and we barely beat them at home. So I’m expecting it’s going to be a battle on the road”, said Eck.

Defensively, the Lobos have been stout all season long, but the offense has had its struggles in recent weeks, especially in the turnover margin.

Coach Eck has not been satisfied with the way his team has turned the ball over the last few weeks against Hawaii and San Jose State and believes that needs to be the key to success this Friday.

“Yeah. We got to play our best football. You got to protect the ball better. This team has, not been great with their turnover margin. I think we’re first in the conference in their last in the conference. And turnover margin, at Hawaii last two road games, Hawaii and San Jose. Hey, we’ve turned it over three times. So we do a better job protecting the ball”, said Eck.

The Lobos currently sit atop of the the Mountain West standings and ranked 22nd in the country. So the chase for a Mountain West title and a spot in College Football Playoff still in view, the Lobos will need another good performance this week.
