APD: Fatal crash closes southbound San Mateo

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Albuquerque police says a man died after a vehicle hit him near San Mateo Boulevard, closing southbound lanes during the investigation.

According to APD, officers responded to reports of the crash around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the area of San Mateo Boulevard and Ross Avenue SE.

Police said an elderly man suffered life-threatening injuries after the vehicle hit him. Emergency crews took him to a hospital, where he later died.

APD said its Fatal Crash Unit is investigating. Police also said southbound lanes of San Mateo are closed while officers work the scene.
