79-year-old pedestrian fatally hit by car in Luling, alleged driver arrested
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - According to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, a 79-year-old woman was fatally hit by a car on Nov. 3, and the alleged driver has been arrested.
The sheriff’s office said just before 3 p.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the 300 block of W. Heather Drive in Luling.
According to investigators, 79-year-old Abigail Sampey was leaving her driveway to go on a walk when 64-year-old Sandra Kinler, who was driving a jeep, allegedly hit Sampey from behind. Officials said video footage showed the driver “failed to take any action to avoid striking Ms. Sampey” despite having “adequate time to do so.”
The victim was airlifted by helicopter, officials said, but died shortly afterwards.
Kinler is facing one count of negligent homicide, according to the sheriff’s office.
Toxicology samples from Kinler are being analyzed, officials said.
