LETTER: Democrats as defenders of democracy?

Jane Klein Henderson

November 4, 2026 - 9:01 pm

The Democratic mantra that they have to save democracy is the irony of all ironies.

In 2024, when Democrats realized President Joe Biden didn’t have a chance to win after his disastrous debate performance, they hand picked Kamala Harris to replace him on the ballot. Ms. Harris never won a primary, and yet that didn’t matter.

In Maine, Graham Platner was their man to run for U.S. Senate. When distasteful information came out, he dropped in the polls. But the allegations of sexual assault and his Nazi tattoo were not the issue for Democrats. They still put full support behind him. The reason they dropped him was because of his poll numbers. Again, they picked a candidate who didn’t go through a primary.

Now, to confuse Alaskan voters , they searched for a guy with the same name as the incumbent Sen. Dan Sullivan to siphon votes from the real candidate. Their man was found in a fishing village and had no political ambitions.

Finally, if they are so concerned with democracy, why won’t Democratic states release their voter rolls?
