The Dish: Fall Harvest Salad by Jameir Taylor from Recipe Philly
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- There's a brand new restaurant at Broad and Arch Streets that is truly a taste of Philadelphia.
From a casting call to a reality show-style competition, Recipe Philly's menu features 31 winning dishes created by our area's local home cooks.
"There's no restaurant in Philadelphia with the flavors of Philly like this," says Andy Revella, the Executive Chef of Recipe Philly. "Actually, there's no restaurant in America that has this kind of concept. None."
Recipe Philly is part restaurant, part reality TV, and ALL Philly.
The recipes on the menu come straight from local home cooks who were chosen as part of a competition.
"We put a casting call out," says Ed Baumstein, the founder of Recipe Philly. "More than 1,000 people showed up at the Convention Center right across the street, and I realized that this was a great idea."
Jameir Taylor brought the recipe for his watermelon feta salad.
"I actually took a chance on myself," says Taylor. "I said, 'Hey, go out there and try it. See what happens.' And I won."
Even more thrilling, he also got a job there.
"I knew I wanted to be a part of the team really bad," he says. "I wanted to grow my culinary skills."
Today, we're making his brand new fall harvest salad.

"I have a nice butternut squash that's roasted with cinnamon, thyme, paprika, and a lot of earthy flavors," he says.
He adds a pistachio crumble.
"It's sweet, nutty, and it has a nice little crunch to it as well," Taylor says.
He adds it to hearty and healthy kale and adds a butternut maple vinaigrette.
"We then we loosened up some feta and made it more like a drizzle," he says.
We added salmon to make this a meal.
"It's a nice comfort dish," he says. "It keeps you nice and cozy."
Taylor's salad joins other winners on the menu, from Niya Woolfolk's cheesesteak eggrolls to Crystal Ashby's honey crunch wings.
"It's glazed in a sweet, savory honey mayo sauce," says Revella.
Rameez Pirani won with a fried butter chicken sandwich.
Camille Calvin's Thai curry noodle soup is a recipe they couldn't wait to get on the menu.
"This was one of the early dishes that really blew me away," says Revella. "It was so good."
Jaymi Carnazza's winning dish is a Piñon, which is like a Puerto Rican lasagna.
"It's got plantains instead of lasagna sheets," says Revella.
Paul Pavelka was one of the winners in the cocktail round with a drink he calls "That's it. That's all."
"It has amaro," says Pavelka. "It has a little bit of rum. It has still a little bit of scotch. We add some fresh squeezed lemon juice, a little bit of ginger syrup and a little bit of honey syrup."
Recipe Philly also hired him to work there.
"Then, three days into it, I became the beverage manager," Pavelka says.
Recipe Philly's youngest winner, now 12-year-old Dahlia, has their best-selling dessert, a chocolate cake.
