Suspect arrested for indecent assault near popular Cape Cod beach

Police say they have arrested a suspect in connection with an early-morning assault near a popular Cape Cod beach.

Barnstable police said they responded to a residence in the Centerville section of Barnstable around 12:30 a.m. Thursday for a report of an indecent assault and battery that had just occurred. Their preliminary investigation revealed that the alleged assault occured in the area of Long Beach Road and involved two people who were known to each other.

Additional Barnstable police officers responded to the Long Beach Road to assist with the investigation. Photos from the scene showed police officers and Barnstable County Sheriff’s deputies gathering evidence in the area of the entrance to the Long Beach conservation area and using metal detectors to search the beach itself.

The investigation ultimately resulted in the arrest of a suspect, police said. The suspect’s name has not been released.

Poice said they believe this was an isolated incident, and there is no known threat or danger to the general public at this time.

The investigation remains active and ongoing, they said.
