Quiet this afternoon, then a real fall cool down arrives this weekend
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - This afternoon is shaping up quiet across southeast Louisiana and south Mississippi, with no rain in the forecast and no watches, warnings or advisories in effect. A weak front is working through the coastal waters, and winds will go light and variable. Temperatures will stay about the same today and Friday. The weather is calm and mild, but the fall feel still hasn’t arrived.
That changes as a reinforcing front slides through, possibly as early as tonight and fully into the Gulf by Friday morning. This front is mostly a wind shift with a surge of drier air, and most of the moisture has already been pushed south and east, so no rain is expected with it. The real cool down is on the way late Friday and Friday evening, and it locks in over the weekend. Dewpoints will drop into the 40s, with a few spots near the upper 30s, so the air will feel crisp.
High pressure builds in from the north, which sets up a good night of radiational cooling Saturday night. Lows will likely fall into the 40s to lower 50s for much of the area. There’s even a very slim chance a few drainage areas touch the upper 30s, so keep that in mind if you have plants or pets outside. Rain chances start creeping back late Monday and into Tuesday as a system out west tries to kick out across Texas. Models are still struggling with the timing, so keep checking the Fox 8 weather app for updates.
