Flores selected as new Senate Majority Leader in Nevada Legislature
State Sen. Edgar Flores, D-Las Vegas, has been selected as the new Senate Majority Leader for the upcoming legislative session, the Nevada Senate Democratic Caucus said in a news release Wednesday.
“An attorney dedicated to consumer protection, workers’ rights, and immigrant advocacy, Flores has consistently championed policies that expand economic justice and empower underrepresented communities across the Silver State,” the caucus said in the release.
The longtime state lawmaker was first elected to the state Senate in November 2022, and he previously served in the Nevada Assembly between 2015 and 2021. Flores is an immigration attorney and attended UNLV’s Boyd Law School.
“I am deeply honored by the trust my colleagues have placed in me to lead our caucus. Our state faces urgent challenges, and working-class Nevadans are counting on us to deliver real solutions,” Flores said in the release. “From expanding access to affordable housing and healthcare to investing in our neighborhood public schools and making sure our economy works for everyday people.
“I am excited to get to Carson City and work with our colleagues in the Assembly and Governor-elect Aaron Ford to build a Nevada where every community has the resources and opportunities to thrive.”
In September 2025, Flores faced a DUI charge after police found him asleep behind the wheel while stopped at a traffic signal. His case was resolved in January after a no-contest plea and the completion of some requirements.
