Today @ 10:30 a.m., Card tricks, a lobster-costumed dog and a fall table refresh.
Magician Nick Paul gave us a sneak peek at his show here at the Magic Saloon, but we have to say the best part was his mind-reading dog Peanut. The magician said he got started at about seven years old after seeing Penn and Teller on television, went home and put his brother in a box to make him disappear. The Magic Saloon run continues through Sunday at 217 Alamo Plaza, and the show is family friendly. Tickets were described as nearly gone.
Representatives from the Texas Oncology Foundation walked through the sixth annual Uncork to Support, an evening built around the money problems a cancer diagnosis brings with it. The foundation helps patients in San Antonio and surrounding areas cover rent, mortgage, phone, utilities and transportation to treatment, the costs that pile up alongside the medical ones. This year’s event, billed as Wine and Wonder, includes dinner, live music, several wine tastings poured by longtime supporter Texas Fine Wines and a live auction stocked with donations from area businesses. It happens Nov. 13 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at the Security Service Event Center. More information is at uncorktosupporttxof.com.
AHIA TURKEY RAFFLE AND FREE FLU SHOTS
Affordable Health Insurance Agency has been serving the area for 31 years. This weekend they’re putting on a Thanksgiving turkey raffle and giveaway paired with free flu shots, and the event doubles as an introduction to Harlandale Clinic at 354 E. Southcross Blvd. Turkeys and shots are first come, first served, and the whole thing runs rain or shine, so arriving early was the advice. The clinic’s office manager said it has been open since 2022 and treats patients from toddlers on up, with chronic condition care including hypertension and diabetes, weight management, hair loss management and some aesthetic services. Major insurances are accepted, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, Clover, Alignment, Medicare and ACA plans, and uninsured patients are seen as well. On the insurance side, the agency’s marketing director said the work is mostly helping people find an affordable plan or simply understand the one they have, with a lot of attention paid to seniors. The event is Saturday, Nov. 7, at 1 p.m.
There’s a big difference between traditional dentistry, where you go to get teeth fixed or cleaned, and full-mouth implants, which Doctors Implants compares to a knee replacement: a replacement procedure handled by a surgeon rather than a repair. They say tens of millions of people are affected and that patients adapt around it, learning not to smile, keeping the upper lip down, skipping events, not asking for the promotion. The look, he said, can match a patient’s face closely enough that no one would know. Dr. Mueller also pushes back on the idea that some people simply cannot be treated, saying patients told they lack enough bone or have a disqualifying condition should still come in for an opinion, since experience with high case volume opens options. His favorite part of the job is late afternoon, when a patient sees the new smile in the mirror for the first time, often with family in the room. Free consultations are available at (210) 600-1000 or doctorsimplants.com.
CRATE AND BARREL FALL HOME TIPS
Crate and Barrel has opened its first San Antonio store at the Shops at La Cantera, which was the peg for three low-effort fall touches: swapping bright blooms for faux and dried botanicals in warm tones, layering in one chunky throw and an earthy pillow, and setting a simple table with neutral dinnerware, a low dried centerpiece and candlelight. Pumpkin mugs made an appearance. The store has a botanical shop on site with floral styling, plus a free design desk and staff who help with floor plans, vanities and entertaining gear.
