Fake jury summons mail scam on the rise, District Court says
There is a scam circulating Las Vegas involving scammers mailing fake jury summons that closely resemble the official postcards used by the court, the Eighth Judicial District Court said in a release Thursday.
The scams summons may display a jury ID number, group number, or may include a counterfeit QR code.
“While the Eighth Judicial District Court does send legitimate jury summons by postcard, there are important differences to recognize,” the release said.
How to differentiate an official jury summons from a scam:
Official jury postcards from the Eighth Judicial District Court will direct the recipient to a secure website to verify the summons. The reporting dates on the postcards will always fall on regular business days and the official court contact information is included on issued postcards.
