Woman assaulted by home intruder defends her fiance, accused of planning the attack

BUCKEYE, AZ (AZFamily/Gray News) — A woman who was attacked in Arizona last month defended her partner in court on Wednesday against accusations that he planned the attack online.

Police said the woman’s fiancé, 23-year-old Zarian Dyer, plotted the Oct. 16 attack with Adrian Ayala, 20, over Reddit.

She told a judge that it’s not true, despite police saying they have messages and other evidence tying Dyer to the plot.

“My partner was forced to deal with false accusations fabricated by the defendant during his frantic attempt to make excuses,” she told the court, referring to claims by Ayala that her partner sent him.

Court documents say Dyer told Ayala when to come, where to park and how to get inside. A prosecutor alleged Dyer wanted Ayala to FaceTime him during the attack. Police said the woman did not consent.

During the hearing, the victim broke down in tears, explaining what happened during the attack.

“My security sensor alerted me that my front door was opening,” she said. “Assuming it was my partner returning from bringing in groceries, my daughter and I walked to the door to assist him. Instead, I found a stranger at my door.”

She said Ayala asked to use her restroom. After she refused, she said he barged into her home and attacked her.

Ayala is also accused of kicking the woman’s 17-month-old daughter.

Ayala, who was arrested Oct. 17, is out of custody. A judge entered not guilty pleas on his behalf on five counts and kept his release conditions in place, including no contact with the victims.

The woman also described losing income and facing eviction since the arrests.

Dyer is still in custody with a bond set at $500,000.
