Henderson man indicted for making threats about killing Trump
A Henderson man has been indicted by a federal grand jury after prosecutors said he made threats to kill President Donald Trump.
Jason Randall Utlaut, 57, is charged with one count of threat against the president, the Department of Justice said Thursday in a news release.
According to court documents, the FBI National Threat Operations Section received an emergency notification Oct. 16 regarding five threatening posts uploaded to a YouTube channel. The posts linked to Utlaut included threats to kill the president, to carry out a mass shooting and other threats of violence, the release stated.
The Metropolitan Police Department executed a search warrant that day on Utlaut’s residence and vehicle in Henderson. Authorities seized 15 firearms, along with magazines and ammunition, the release stated.
“Threats of political violence and mass murder have no place in our society,” Christopher S. Delzotto, special agent in charge for the FBI Las Vegas office, said in the release. “Mr. Utlaut allegedly threatened the life of President Trump, promoted a mass shooting, and expressed a willingness to carry out horrific acts of violence. Such threats undermine public safety and will be treated with the utmost seriousness.”
“Stopping violence before it starts requires a coordinated effort across all levels of law enforcement,” Henderson Police Chief Reggie Rader said in the release. “Through strong regional partnerships and collaboration with our federal counterparts, we can share information, identify potential threats and work together to keep our communities safe.”
If convicted, Utlaut faces up to five years in prison. An arraignment is set for Nov. 18 before U.S. Magistrate Judge Maximiliano D. Couvillier III.
