New details revealed on HiFi revitalization project in Downtown Memphis
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - New details have been released about the project to revitalize the HiFi District and historic Sterick building in Downtown Memphis.
Mersadies Burch with HiFi Memphis, which leads the redevelopment effort, said the project has reached its third year and is about more than just reviving an empty building.
The plan is to bring the historic Sterick back to life and revitalize the surrounding block, creating an area that reflects Memphis for everyone walking out those doors.

By acquiring surrounding properties and assets, organizers say they want to make HiFi District feel similar to Seattle’s Pike Place Market, transforming the area into a more livable urban neighborhood.
“We’ve been acquiring these properties with the notion of developing the HiFi District, which we like—it rolls off the tongue, it’s got this ‘SoHo’ vibe, right?” Burch said. “...But it also leans into our city’s music identity and some of the values we want to embody here at HiFi. So, that’s what we’ve been doing: thinking about long-term change and making some of those strategic acquisitions.”
She says some of the recently acquired properties she’s most excited about include the two buildings directly across from the Sterick building.
HiFi Memphis hopes to potentially shape the area into that public market feel.
The announcement was made during a luncheon that nonprofit New Memphis hosted Thursday.
