Grizzlies Prep cuts ribbon on new South Memphis campus
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The Memphis Grizzlies Foundation-backed charter school cut the ribbon on its new campus in South Memphis.
It was a big day for Grizzlies Prep and for Memphis families in attendance.
Grizzles Prep moved from Downtown into what used to be Corry Middle School and Believe Academy.
Along with more classroom and lab space for the boys program, it now has a dedicated Science, Technology, Engineering, and Arts (STEAM) school for girls.
“We’re over the moon right now with excitement. So many people came out to celebrate the work of transforming the lives of children. That’s really special to me. It’s more than a ribbon cutting that opens a school. This is about opening opportunities and pathways for the students,” Tim Ware, Executive Director of Grizzlies Prep Schools, said.
Ware added they are proud to be part of a solution to the challenges many Memphians face.
Right now, 6th through 8th grade is only offered for boys, but Grizzlies Prep hopes to expand to offer more than 6th grade for girls.
The boys’ and girls’ learning spaces are kept separate.
