Green Cove Springs begins decorating for Dec. 5 Christmas festival

The City of Green Cove Springs has begun preparations for its annual holiday festivities, with the Christmas on Walnut Street Festival and Parade scheduled for Dec. 5. The event, along with the Christmas Village on Walnut Street, will be held at Spring Park and along Walnut Street.

Municipal crews and community volunteers are setting up decorations a month ahead of the event. City officials noted that extensive planning and physical setup are required prior to Thanksgiving to prepare the public spaces for the holiday season.

Preparations involve multiple municipal departments, including the city’s Public Works and Electric teams, working alongside community volunteers. The City of Green Cove Springs Government acknowledged the groups assisting with the effort.

“A big thank you to our Public Works and Electric teams for all their efforts and to everyone who has volunteered their time to help make the season a little more festive for our community,” the city government stated.

Glenn Dixon, a staff member in the Public Works department, documented the ongoing setup by capturing video footage of the preparations. “A special thank you to Glenn Dixon from Public Works for capturing the footage used in this video!” the city government stated.

As setup continues across Spring Park and Walnut Street, city officials issued guidance regarding the displayed items. The City of Green Cove Springs Government requested that visitors refrain from handling the installations. “Please do not touch, move, or disturb the decorations as preparations continue,” the city government stated. “We want everything to be ready for everyone to enjoy!”

The Parade of Trees will be open to the public in Spring Park from Dec. 1 through Dec. 31.
