Raiders bring back fan-favorite wide receiver day after cutting him
Cody White isn’t going anywhere.
A day after releasing him to clear a roster spot for the return of tight end Carter Runyon from injured reserve, the Las Vegas Raiders re-signed the wide receiver on Thursday.
Runyon was then waived from the active roster to clear a spot for White.
White, who has three touchdown receptions for the Raiders this season, was back on the practice field Thursday.
As a vested veteran, he did not have to clear waivers and became an immediate free agent upon his release. That meant he could make the decision to return to the Raiders even if other teams showed interest.
Runyon is subject to waivers, so the other 31 teams will have the option to claim him and sign him to the active roster.
Should he clear waivers on Friday, Runyon could then be signed to the Raiders practice squad.
That would not have been the case had he been waived from injured reserve. At that point, the Raiders would have had to wait the length of any injury settlement plus an additional three weeks to bring him back.
