Sawmill District apartment complex moving forward
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Albuquerque city councilors gave Titan Development final approval for a 200-unit apartment building in the fast-growing Sawmill District.
Titan Development plans to build the apartments on a four-acre property on 18th Street that the company bought in 2022.
“I think Sawmill is one of the most exciting areas in Albuquerque right now,” Josh Rogers, one of the partners on the project, said.
Rogers said Rugby Architectural Building Products occupies the current warehouse, but the company plans to move out soon.
Titan requested a zoning change for the project earlier this year. The Environmental Planning Commission approved it in June, but the Sawmill Community Land Trust appealed.
Albuquerque city councilors denied the appeal Monday night, giving Titan the final green light for the project.
“Their big issue was that they just didn’t like it that it’s going to have the potential to be five stories, and they wanted four,” Rogers said.
“We’re going to do landscaping. We’re going to do some things here that will just make this connect in better with the rest of Sawmill and to the Sawmill Community Land Trust, and it should be a benefit for all,” Rogers said.
Rogers said there will be hundreds of millions of dollars in new investment in Sawmill in the next five years between a hotel, more housing and the rail trail.
“It’s got lots of opportunity, and it’s going to be the best place to be in the next 10 years,” Rogers said.
KOB 4 reached out to the Sawmill Community Land Trust for comment on its next steps and whether it plans to work with Titan, but KOB 4 did not hear back.
