NMDOT shuts NM 309 at river bridge; drivers urged to use detours
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico Department of Transportation closed NM 309 at the river bridge until further notice over safety concerns near the road and bridge.
The New Mexico Department of Transportation said District 3 started the extended closure as a precaution while it evaluates the area and decides on repairs or other corrective steps.
Drivers heading west can use NM 6 to the north or U.S. 60 to the south through NM 47 or NM 304 to connect with Interstate 25.
Drivers heading east toward the closure will be redirected to the Interstate 25 Business Loop, with other access through NM 6 to the north or U.S. 60 to the south.
Officials said crews will use electronic message boards and traffic control devices to guide drivers through the detours.
The closure remains in effect until further notice.
The department encouraged drivers to plan for extra travel time, follow posted detour signs and check www.nmroads.com for current road conditions.
