Charlotte 49ers grit out a 77-67 win over Georgia State
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - It wasn’t easy, but the Charlotte 49ers beat Georgia State 77-67.
The Niners were once again led Keyshuan Tillery who finished with 24 points. He got scoring help from Miguel Allen who had 13 points off the bench.
The Niners found themselves down 7 midway through the first half as Jacolb Fredson-Cole of Georgia State got off to a hot start. He scored 14 of his 21 points in the first half.
Charlotte also helped out by struggling from the three point line as they were 3 for 11 in the first.
But Charlotte fought their way back by attacking the paint. They finished the first half with a 7-0 run to take a 2 point lead at halftime. The biggest shot in the run was a buzzer beating, step-back 3 from Tillery to end the first.
The Niners didn’t handle that success well as they trailed by 8 with 10 minutes to play.
But a 15-6 run gave helped the Niners retake the lead and Charlotte finished the game with an 11-0 run to blow the game open.
Charlotte won the points in the paint 40-22 and that offset a terrible 3 point shooting night as Charlotte was 6 for 18 from long distance.
The Wes Miller era is off to a 2-0 start. They will be looking to go 3-0 Monday when they head to Philadelphia for a meeting with Seton Hall.
