Switzerland-based manufacturing company ABB will invest $50 million into an expansion in Selmer, marking the company’s second expansion in McNairy County since last year. The move will add a projected 227 jobs, the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development announced Thursday.

ABB will build a new 120,000-square-foot Industrial Connections & Solutions facility alongside its recently completed 325,000-square-foot manufacturing facility at the Selmer/McNairy County North Industrial Park. The larger manufacturing hub was part of ABB’s first Selmer expansion announced in March 2025, a $76 million investment projected to create 50 jobs. The company received a $500,000 grant from the state for that expansion. As of April, Industrial Connections & Solutions reported 33 net new jobs, adding to the company’s 191 existing employees.

It’s not yet clear what incentives the state offered for the expansion announced Thursday.

ABB will begin relocating about 90% of its equipment and employees to the recently completed manufacturing hub in 2027. The company will relocate its remaining employees and equipment from its current location on 4th street to the new 120,000-square-foot facility in the second half of 2027. The facility will manufacture electrical distribution systems and other electrical products, according to a TNECD news release.

Upon completing the expansion, ABB will employ more than 1,500 people at its Tennessee locations in Selmer, Portland, Athens, Memphis and Mount Juliet.

The state has poured nearly $1.4 million into the 39-acre Selmer/McNairy County North Industrial Park through site development grants to make the site more palatable for business investments. That includes a $500,000 grant in 2024 for engineering studies and a nearly $898,000 grant in 2022 for property grading and access road construction.
