SAPD: Officer shoots, kills man who pulled gun after chase; second suspect in critical condition after shooting self
A man was shot and killed by a San Antonio police officer after pulling a gun, while another man shot himself following a chase on the far West Side, according to Chief Jesse Salame.
The shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. Friday at Lone Star Parkway and Wild Pine, not far from Alamo Ranch Parkway.
According to Salame, Street Crimes Unit officers initiated a chase on the South Side.
The chase continued to the Alamo Ranch area, where the vehicle stopped near a gated neighborhood around Lone Star Parkway and Wild Pine.
Police said the male driver attempted to enter the neighborhood but was unable to get through the gate. The male passenger got out of the vehicle and tried entering a code into the gate’s keypad.
An officer approached the passenger after police said an Eagle helicopter helped guide officers to the vehicle’s location, Salame said.
Salame said the passenger pulled out a gun and the officer opened fire, hitting the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver pulled out a gun and intentionally shot himself, according to Salame. The driver was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
An adult woman was also inside the vehicle in the back seat. She was not injured and was taken to police headquarters to speak with detectives.
San Antonio police, fire and EMS crews responded to the scene.
