Electric scooter driver, 67, killed in collision with speeding SUV in North Park

In the second fatal electric scooter crash in as many days, a 67-year-old man scooter driver has died after a collision with a speeding SUV early Friday in the North Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

The stand-up scooter driver, an unidentified 67-year-old man, was in the intersection of the 3300 block of West Peterson Avenue around 4:35 a.m. when a Dodge SUV "made contact" with him, Chicago police said.

He was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The Dodge driver was cited for speeding.

Another electric scooter driver was killed in a crash early Thursday after a collision with a Chicago police vehicle in Bridgeport.

In that accident, officers were on patrol in a marked police vehicle, traveling north on Princeton Avenue where they “came into contact” with a stand-up electric scooter operated by a 39-year-old male at 32nd Street, police said in a statement.

The still-unidentified scooter operator suffered injuries to his body and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
