HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies are searching for a 17-year-old accused of shooting and killing his father during a fight at a home in northwest Harris County early on Friday.
According to the sheriff's office, Precinct 1 was called to a home on Westbank Avenue near West Road and Fairbanks North Houston around 1:20 a.m. When deputies got there, they found a 37-year-old man had been shot and killed.
After speaking with family members, investigators said they learned the father and son had been fighting when the 17-year-old got out a pistol, shot his father, and ran off from the house.
Investigators said they do not yet know exactly what the fight was about, but family members told them it had been an ongoing issue and that the two had argued like this before.
The suspect's mother and two younger siblings, around 14 and 12 years old, were also in the home when the shooting happened but were not hurt, according to the sheriff's office.
Deputies said they do not yet know whether the 17-year-old will face charges.
"We are trying to flesh that out as far as if the father was assaulting the son or if the son was assaulting the father. We have not made any determination right now on whether or not charges are going to be filed against the son," HCSO Sgt. Jason Brown explained.
The search for the 17-year-old is ongoing Friday morning. Investigators said they want to speak with him and hear his account of what led up to the shooting.
