Man accused of breaking into north Bexar County home, threatening homeowner over communications with ex-wife
A man was arrested after investigators say he forced his way into a home, threatened the homeowner with a knife and demanded he stop communicating with the homeowner’s ex-wife.
Henry Walter Chapman III, 61, faces a charge of burglary of a habitation with intent to commit a felony, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
An arrest affidavit states the incident happened around 4:20 p.m. Oct. 12 at a home in the 23200 block of Fairway Bridge Drive in north Bexar County.
The homeowner told investigators an unknown man, later identified as Chapman, came to his door, claiming to be associated with a group called the “Night Stalkers” and said he was there to deliver a warning.
When the homeowner tried to close his door, Chapman kicked it open and entered the home without consent, the affidavit states.
Once inside, the affidavit states Chapman allegedly went toward the homeowner while holding a knife, stabbing the kitchen island and demanding he send a message to his ex-wife promising to stop communicating with her.
Chapman told the man, “We will be back” if he did not comply, the affidavit states.
The man’s two daughters witnessed the incident from the second-floor balcony, and both provided accounts consistent with their father’s statements, according to the affidavit.
Investigators used surveillance footage from the gated community’s entrance, security cameras inside the home and license plate reader technology to track a black Mercedes C300 to the scene.
Records from Sewell Mercedes in Selma showed the vehicle had been loaned to Chapman from Oct. 9 to Oct. 15.
Chapman is being held on a $50,000 bond, Bexar County court records show.
