Gateway Regional payroll delayed for 3rd time since July; hospital says it’s seeking funding

GRANITE CITY, Ill. (First Alert 4) - Dozens of Gateway Regional employees told First Alert 4 that their paychecks are delayed, the third time employee pay has been affected since July 31.

First Alert 4 Investigates obtained internal emails sent to staff. In one, leadership wrote that it does not know when payroll will be processed and is working to secure funding.

The delay comes as Gateway works to correct violations identified by state and federal inspectors. CMS said it plans to terminate the hospital’s Medicare agreement Nov. 17 unless the hospital returns to compliance.

First Alert 4 reached out to the hospital CEO and the parent company, AHS, for comment and again requested an on-camera interview. We have not gotten a response at this time.

In a previous response, Gateway said it was “operating as usual.”
