Overturned big rig spills bales of hay all over 605 Freeway in Cerritos, causing hourslong closure

It took crews hours to clean up the massive mess and reopen the roadway.

CERRITOS, Calif. (KABC) -- A big rig carrying a load of hay bales overturned in Cerritos overnight, causing a massive mess on the 605 Freeway.

The crash happened just before midnight on Thursday on the 605 Freeway south transition road to the 91 Freeway west, near Bellflower. The semi-truck ended up on its side in a ditch off the road.

The connector was closed for hours on Friday morning as crews worked to clean up the mess. The roadway finally reopened shortly after 9 a.m.

AIR7 video from above the scene shows hay all over the road, with crews shoveling the hay into another truck.

Another video from the scene shows a man with a dog in the back of an ambulance, while a woman was also transported to the hospital.

It's unclear what led up to the crash.
