Prosecutors are alleging a couple defrauded Lutheran Social Services, bankrupting the nonprofit.

Tim and Michele Bedwell were each indicted on a count of comprehensive theft between $25,000 and $100,000, Chief Deputy District Attorney Eckley Keach announced Friday.

“This case arose from an ongoing, multi-year embezzlement scheme involving both Tim and his wife Michele Bedwell, where they ultimately defrauded the Lutheran Social Services of Nevada of thousands of dollars, ultimately leading to the subsequent winding down and bankruptcy of that organization,” the prosecutor said. “The nature of this fraud is quite offensive.”

The Bedwells have been the subject of investigative reporting by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, including into questions about payments to Michele Bedwell, whose husband was the CEO.
