APD disputes ex-officer’s ‘misleading’ social media allegations

Atlanta police are disputing claims on social media being made by a former officer.

They say the former officer is making posts online that are “misleading” and “lack context and are not supported by departmental records.”

Department leaders have not commented on the content of any of the allegations being made online.

Some of the incidents being referenced happened more than a decade ago and others involve current department members.

APD says it takes all allegations of misconduct, discrimination and favoritism seriously, but those involved deserve to be treated fairly during an investigation rather than online speculation.

Officials say the agency will make records available to the public under applicable disclosure and privacy laws.

“We believe transparency is the strongest response to misinformation,” leaders wrote in a statement.

It’s unclear if the former officer faces disciplinary actions over the allegations.
