Scott Colom’s lead increases to over 2,000 votes ahead of Cindy Hyde-Smith in Senate race
JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - As of Friday afternoon, Democrat challenger Scott Colom is leading Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith by just over 2,000 votes in unofficial results in the U.S. Senate race.
At approximately 2:45 p.m. Nov. 6, Colom has 467,153 votes, or 49.1%, to 465,124, or 48.8%, for Hyde-Smith.
Colom is now ahead by 2,029 votes.
An estimated 96.8% of the votes are in.
When asked on Friday about the close Senate race, Colom said, “I’m ready to accept the results, right? That’s what our democracy is all about. When people lose, they can’t be sore losers; they have to accept the results. ... The senator needs to speak out, right? Where is Cindy Hyde-Smith? Why can’t she speak for herself? Why she gotta have Chairman Hurst speaking for her? We wanna hear from her. She needs to answer questions. What is her path to victory? She doesn’t have one.”
