Khaliik White, a security guard who draws intricate artwork during his breaks, now sees his work hanging on the walls of Philadelphia's City Hall.
PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- Security guard Khaliik White's life took many twists and turns, perfectly illustrated by his sketches that now adorn the walls of Philadelphia's City Hall.
White, originally from East Orange, NJ, now lives in Philadelphia's Tioga section. He previously spent 14 years as a voice actor.
However, a health issue required the removal of his thyroid. The result was a voice that sounded different from the one with which he built a career.
White slipped into a bout of drinking that fractured relationships in his life. Ultimately, he came to Philadelphia for a fresh start and joined the Ready, Willing, and Able program.
It helped him become sober and transition into a stable career.
For the past couple years, he has worked as a security guard at Philadelphia City Hall, employed through the Scotlandyard Security company.
And during his breaks, he always keeps his sketchbook handy.
Passersby and co-workers began to notice White's work. This ultimately led Councilmember Rue Landau to open her office as an impromptu art gallery for him.
Now, White's work can be seen hanging on the walls of Landau's office. A selection is also displayed in a case directly across the hall. It is located on the 5th floor in Room 592.
His artwork is expected to be displayed to the public until Friday, November 13.
